Finish the cover, make the Spotify Canvas the same afternoon and have it live before release day, since Spotify lets you add one to upcoming tracks.
EzVisualizer is a free Spotify Canvas maker to try: drop in your cover and your song, and it builds a 3 to 8 second vertical loop that pulses with the music and repeats without a visible seam. Export a 720×1280 or 1080×1920 MP4, or a JPG still, checked against Spotify’s spec. The preview needs no sign-up, your first HD export is free with an account, and nothing is watermarked or uploaded.
A Spotify Canvas is the short vertical loop that replaces the album art on the Now Playing screen of the Spotify mobile app. Spotify describes it as a 3 to 8 second loop, and listeners also meet Canvas videos Spotify mixes into the visual feeds on Home. It plays muted and repeats for as long as the track runs, so a good one is simple, steady and has no jump where it starts again. Spotify lets the main artist add one to any track, upcoming releases included, but it does not make the file for you. That is the job of a Spotify Canvas maker. EzVisualizer builds the loop from the cover and song you already have, so the Canvas matches the release without a video shoot or an editing timeline.
Make a Spotify CanvasSpotify says that if the length or size is even slightly off, the upload can fail. Most rejected Spotify Canvas files trip over one of these, and each one is handled before you export:
Most tools treat a Spotify Canvas as a short video. This one treats it as a loop that has to meet a spec and still look good on the thousandth repeat.
The loop length snaps to whole beats of your song, so the pulse lands exactly where the Canvas starts over.
9:16 at 1080×1920 or 720×1280, 3 to 8 seconds, no audio track, MP4 or JPG. A spec check confirms each point before you export.
Every visualizer style works in Canvas mode, from a soft Halo glow to a spinning Vinyl label, all colored from your artwork.
Cover and song are decoded and rendered in your browser tab. Unreleased music never reaches our servers.
Preview with no account, and no logo is ever stamped in the corner. Your first HD export is free with an account; the Release Kit covers the Canvas plus every other format of a song.
No text is added and the cover stays centered, clear of the edges a phone may crop and of the song details at the bottom.
From a cover image to a live Spotify Canvas, the first three steps happen on this page and the last one in Spotify for Artists.
Drop the track (MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG) and a JPG, PNG or WebP cover on the tool above. No files ready? Load the demo song.
Choose one of 13 styles, drag the loop window onto the hook or the drop, and set a length between 3 and 8 seconds.
Choose 720p or 1080p, check the spec list turns green and save the Spotify Canvas video. A 6 second loop renders in seconds on a laptop.
On the web, open the Music tab, select the track and click Add Canvas. Spotify for Artists app users select the track, tap the edit icon, then Canvas.
A Spotify Canvas generator should do the fiddly parts for you: the seam, the size and the timing.
Spotify’s own guidelines call a continuous loop the most satisfying kind. EzVisualizer picks a length that is a whole number of beats at your song’s tempo, then crossfades the last moments of the motion into the first, so the halo, bars or particles arrive at the end exactly where they began.
See the LoopYour Spotify Canvas runs on a real stretch of the song, so the chorus moves differently from the intro. Drag the highlighted window along the timeline to the part with the most energy and set the length in half seconds. At 120 BPM, 6 seconds is exactly 12 beats.
Choose the HookNext to the export button, a row of Spotify spec checks reads the file you are about to make: 9:16, 3 to 8 seconds, at least 720 px tall, no audio track, MP4 or JPG. Each check turns green when it passes and red when it does not, so nothing bounces back from Spotify for a reason you could have caught here.
Check My CanvasExport 1080×1920, the size most guides recommend, or 720×1280 for a smaller file, as an H.264 MP4 with no audio track. Want something calmer? Save a JPG still instead: Spotify accepts a static Canvas too.
Pick a SizeOn a phone, the song title, artist and playback controls sit over the bottom of the loop, and Spotify warns that edges may get cut off on some screens. Canvas mode adds no text and keeps the cover in the middle, where nothing covers it. For a promo clip with your title on it, use the Spotify visualizer instead.
Preview ItA Spotify Canvas in the Halo style on a demo cover, rendered live by the same engine as the tool above, inside a phone-height frame.
What you are looking at
Demo song at 120 BPM, loop set to 6 seconds: 12 whole beats, 180 frames at 30 fps, 1080×1920, H.264 MP4 with no audio track, about 4.5 MB. Treat the frame as a Canvas video mockup: the shaded band is where the Spotify Canvas overlay of title and controls sits. Load the demo song in the tool and you get the same file.

Anyone with a track on Spotify and a cover ready. A Spotify Canvas creator that runs in the browser fits release week, when there is no time for a shoot.
Finish the cover, make the Spotify Canvas the same afternoon and have it live before release day, since Spotify lets you add one to upcoming tracks.
Loop the drop of an instrumental under your artwork. Spectrum Bars and Particles hit hardest on a strong kick.
Spotify suggests a theme across a release. Keep one style and let each cover set the colors, so the Spotify Canvases change from track to track and the set still matches.
Spotify encourages keeping a Canvas updated. A new Spotify Canvas for an older single takes minutes, not a production budget.
Make the Canvas, then a 30 second vertical clip of the same song in the TikTok visualizer and a full video in the YouTube visualizer.
Show a client a moving draft of their cover in minutes, then decide whether the release needs a full motion piece.
Answers from Spotify’s own help pages, plus what this tool does and does not do.
Yes. Spotify asks for a vertical 9:16 video or image, 3 to 8 seconds long, as an MP4 or JPG. Its help page says “between 720px and 1080px tall”; in practice that means a 720p or 1080p frame, and 1080×1920 is the size most guides recommend. EzVisualizer exports both 720×1280 and 1080×1920.
Make the file, then upload it yourself. Export the loop here, sign in to Spotify for Artists, open the Music tab, select the track and click Add Canvas. In the mobile app, select the track, tap the edit icon, then Canvas. You need to be the first main artist on the track, or the main artist on both track and release, with an Admin or Editor role.
It is free to try. Every style and both sizes preview free with no sign-up, and your first HD export is free with an account. After that, a pass or plan covers each song; the Release Kit ($9.99) includes the Canvas along with every other format. See pricing. No download carries a watermark, and adding a Canvas in Spotify for Artists is free.
Spotify’s Fan Study says that in Spotify playlists, when the Now Playing view is open, listeners save or playlist tracks with a Canvas over 4X more on average than tracks without one (October 2023 data). It also reports that adding or refreshing a Canvas lifts off-platform shares by more than 10% on average (January to March 2021). Those are Spotify’s figures, not a promise for your track, but the effort is small.
Play the track in the Spotify app, tap the three dots and choose Instagram Stories. The Spotify Canvas plays as the background of the Story with the track attached. Spotify notes that the audio does not play on Instagram, so it works as a visual teaser that sends people to the song.
For artists, any track can have one if you hold the right role. For listeners, Spotify says Canvas plays only in the mobile app (iOS 12 or later, Android 6.0 or later), in the countries it lists, with Canvas switched on and Data Saver off. The desktop app and web player show the cover instead.
Check four things: 9:16 shape, 3 to 8 seconds, at least 720 px and an MP4 or JPG file. Spotify says even a slight miss can fail. If the file is right and the error stays, try the Spotify for Artists mobile app or reinstall it. In the rare browser that cannot make MP4, this tool saves WebM, which Spotify will not take, so open the page in Chrome, Edge or Safari.
Not as a GIF file. Spotify takes MP4 or JPG, so a looping Spotify Canvas GIF has to become an MP4 first. Build the loop here and export it as MP4, or pick a single frame and save it as a JPG for a still Canvas.
Spotify suggests leaving out the song and artist name, since Now Playing already shows them, and its content policy rules out links, calls to follow, other brands and the Spotify logo. That is why Canvas mode has no text fields. Keep any words for the clips you post elsewhere.
No AI is involved. The motion comes from analyzing your song: its frequency bands, kicks and tempo drive each frame, and your cover supplies the picture and colors. Nothing is invented, so the Canvas always looks like your release. Need new artwork? The album cover maker can generate an AI cover.
Nobody outside Spotify can promise that. EzVisualizer gets the size, length and file type right; what is in the picture is up to you. Spotify says it may remove a Canvas that breaks its Platform Rules or is overly promotional, so follow its content policy and use artwork you own.
Spotify’s guidelines point the same way: one idea, no rapid cuts or harsh flashing, nothing important near the edges, a loop that reads as continuous, and a look tied to your cover. Browse Spotify Canvas examples on artists.spotify.com/canvas, then use any style here as your Spotify Canvas template.
Spotify’s app plays Canvases but has no button to save them, and each loop is the artwork of the artist who made it, so ask them for the file. For your own track you never need to download one from Spotify: the MP4 or JPG you export here is already on your device.
Yes. The tool runs in a phone browser, and a loop of a few seconds exports quickly even there. Then upload it with the Spotify for Artists app on the same phone, under the track’s edit icon.
The Spotify Canvas feature belongs to tracks: it is the loop behind a song in Now Playing, so podcasts do not get one. For a podcast clip with a waveform and the show art, use the audiogram generator; for a plain waveform video or image, try the sound wave generator. Every look on this page also lives in the full audio visualizer.
